The 6th fib International Congress, titled Concrete Innovation for Sustainability, was held in Oslo from June 12-16, 2022. The congress focused on the need for innovation to achieve the ambitious global goals of a sustainable society, such as energy conservation, reduction of CO2 emissions and resource consumption, efficient construction and higher performance at lower cost, but also other aspects of sustainability.
Our PhD student Antonija Ocelić attended the congress and gave a presentation entitled “Waste fibres: A new perspective for the construction industry”. The presentation gave an overview of the types of recycled fibres and their application in cement composites. Recycled fibres were presented as a promising solution for sustainable construction with lower environmental impact and production costs compared to industrial fibres. The focus was on four types of waste fibres: Carbon, Glass, Basalt and RTPF (recycled tyre polymer fibres) and their impact on the properties of cement composites.
